Answer is native intelligence. Certain pests and insects are attracted to colors and fragnance of flowers. So they habitat on marigold plant. When farmer goes around inspecting his farm for any visible signs of pests and insects, he/she just need to inspect the marigold plant at the beginning of each row. If pests and insects are present on marigold, then they are likely present/invade the whole farm. In the absence of marigold plant at the beginning of each row, farmer will have to walk through each row and inspect each every eggplant plant to detect pests.
This is called “trap plant”. This is native intelligence of Indian agriculture followed even today. No cost technology.
